What we're doing...

Bug Hotels

On our front garden you will find our latest addition... our bug hotel! Created in partnership with New Leaf NHS, who are an amazing charity that help adults with mental health challenges learn vital skills, steering them on a path back to paid employment. Our bug hotels make the perfect home for wildlife, ensuring a safe place for them to thrive in.

New Toiletries

We're in the process of developing our own Source Spa in-room products to all bedrooms and public areas across the collection, reducing our single-use plastics enormously.

Food Waste

All food waste from The Arlington Restaurant, Bertie's Bar, The White Room, kitchen and staff waste is made into renewable energy using Andigestion.

Renewable Energy

We have installed a Solar Thermal system meaning we can heat our own water as well as a PV Installation that reduces day time usage.

Electric Car Charging

In our car park, we have installed electric car charging points to encourage the use of electric cars by our guests.

Recycling

Across all of our luxury hotels, we recycle metal, glass, plastic, card and paper and almost all our waste is recycled or reused. This has had an outstanding effect by diverting more than 95% of our waste from landfill.

Carbon Emissions

At The Victoria Hotel and across The Brend Collection, we have reduced our carbon emissions by an incredible 6000 tonnes in the last 10 years and we continue to conduct a comprehensive review across all areas of our business to reduce our carbon footprint.

Plastic Waste

Across The Victoria Hotel, we endeavor to recycle as much as possible. In our award-winning kitchen, we have switched to using reusable plastic containers throughout. We have removed all plastic bags and now offer Brend Hotel plastic-free bags, made with sugar canes.

Low Energy Lights

Across all of our floors, restaurants, Bertie's Bar, Source Spa and back-of-house areas, we have switched to using low-energy LED lights.

Biodegradable Straws

In Bertie's Bar, we've removed all plastic straws and switched to PLA biodegradable straws and Hay straws which are 100% compostable and made from the wonderful hay you see growing in the fields around you.

At the Brend Collection we are committed to minimising the environmental impact of the services we provide.  We will achieve this through our commitment to:

  • Making sure we comply with all relevant legislation and regulations.

  • Regularly reviewing the environmental impact of our activities and that we use materials in a sustainable and responsible manner.

  • Investing to ensure we use efficient-energy efficient systems in all our premises.
  • Improving our use of water, and reducing it wherever possible.
  • Engaging with our employees to ensure they have the tools and training they require the help us achieve our environmental goals.
  • Supporting a development plan of continual improvement in environmental performance incorporating suitable measurement and monitoring mechanisms.
  • Ensuring that the waste we produce is kept to a minimum and recycled wherever possible. By using best practice techniques we aim to return zero to landfill.
  • Work with key suppliers to ensure our purchasing policies support local businesses and encourage them to develop environmental best practice and reduce the impact of the goods and services they provide to us.
  • Co-operating with our competitors in order that new sustainable business practices can be developed across the hospitality sector.
